October Programme 2023

This Autumn saw one of our biggest October programmes to date, with two CCOs, school and college students travelling to Ghana and Kenya to support our partner schools by way of teaching, sports coaching and developing the facilities at the schools’ site. Thanks to our volunteers, all here at African Adventures really feel we’re leaving our 2023 programme behind on a high and we’d like to recap on the achievements made in our October Programme! 

Pupils from a Lancashire school, supporters of the Aston Villa Foundation and Port Vale Foundation all travelled out to Kenya to volunteer at our partner schools, as well as experience some of the incredible Kenyan wildlife on our Rift Valley Adventure Day!  

Both students from Lancashire and Port Vale Foundation volunteered at West End Destiny school in Nakuru, where they continued with the build of an essential permanent classroom, laid concrete for the first-floor flooring slabs, as well as providing teaching assistance in the classroom and multi-sport coaching. 

Jorgie, Group Leader for The Port Vale Foundation, said:

“Kenya has been a truly life-changing experience. Knowing the impact we have had on so many lives and the appreciation from the children and families has been bigger than I thought possible”.

Aston Villa Foundation volunteered at Cherish School, continuing with the build of a perimeter wall commenced by previous groups to secure the classrooms, kitchen and toilet block on site and ensure the pupils safety. 

Jordan, Group Leader for The Aston Villa Foundation, said of the trip:

“It was a moving and life-changing experience for me. One I will remember for my rest of my life”.

A group of students from a school in London were our final group travelling to Ghana this year. They flew out to volunteer at Woe EP school where they helped with the conversion of an old school office into a much needed library! The new library will create an additional quiet learning space for students to flourish in their studies. 

Away from volunteering the group experienced our Volta Adventure Weekend, giving them the chance to feed monkeys by hand at a protected sanctuary, and pose for pictures at Wli Falls – Ghana’s highest waterfall.
