On The Home Stretch

3 weeks ago 11

It’s been a busy day.   Traveled one and a half hours for a board meeting. Left home at 7:30am. Got back home around 3:00pm.   The LAST thing I wanted to do was to walk Max. Yet, he loves it. And I need it.   It really was beautiful. 57°, sunny, slight wind. Perfect for walking but all I physically wanted to do was take a nap. Stretch out, wrapped in a blanket, and drift off.   The whole time I walked I was convincing myself I needed to do the two miles instead of one. I pushed past the one-mile mark and got to the turn around to come back to finish with two. Just a little way from the turnaround is a slight hill. Once you crest the hill, you can see my house.   The home stretch. It aways brings a sense of peace. Almost home. Almost done. Almost to the resting spot.   I pray my kids always think of our house as home. I pray they receive the same peace and joy as the house comes in view and pull into the driveway anticipating some delicious meal waiting for them.   I heard in my head – either my “wanna be a writer” voice or God’s voice – “you’re almost home in another way”.   This last year has been a hard number for me. I never saw myself this old. I work so hard not to feel this old. Not to act this old, think this old, look this old. But old, I am – 70.   The thought of being this old and closing in on home going is a comforting thought though because for me I know my future address. I will be surrounded by so many loved ones, friends, and Jesus himself. And my house in heaven – Oh my – can’t imagine!   Almost home is a natural thing for me now. Then another thought – almost home is really a possibility for every single person.   Do you ever think about your final home?   I pray your final residence is in heaven with me.
