Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has become an important member of the squad both on and off the pitch for Mikel Arteta, but he could depart the club this summer with Juventus interested.

The 32-year-old has found himself appearing off the bench or even from the start fairly regularly due to an injury to Thomas Partey, and he has delivered some key performances at the base of midfield as an underrated part of the squad, which has allowed Declan Rice to occasionally push further forward.

Jorginho was signed last January and is a key leader for Arteta, and the veteran was even spotted on the touchline giving instructions to his teammates when the Spaniard was serving a one-match ban from the dugout.

Juventus are interested in Jorginho

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has highlighted that Jorginho is an option for Juventus in the summer window, as the Serie A giants seek to reinforce their midfield following bans for Nicolas Fagioli and Paul Pogba.

“Jorginho is an opportunity in the summer as a free agent,” he posted on X.

Jorginho is out of contract at the end of the season, and there are no signs yet that this could be renewed, although all indications point towards Arteta being a huge fan of the player.

David Raya even recently highlighted how useful Jorginho has been in helping him settle at the club since his summer move, and he offers a lot of experience and leadership to the Arsenal squad.

Should Arsenal renew Jorginho’s contract?

Arsenal have been linked with several midfielders including Douglas Luiz, and if one of these targets arrives, then Jorginho would likely depart given that he would fall further down the pecking order.

Arteta will not want to lose a key player in Jorginho in January, therefore meaning that if he does depart, it will be on a free transfer in the summer window.

Given Partey’s injury problems and the likelihood of Mohamed Elneny also departing, Arsenal could potentially lose three central midfielders in the next two windows, and Jorginho could be renewed for one more year if the club are keen to avoid such an exodus in one position.

However, Jorginho may not choose to renew his contract if his opportunities for game time are limited. It seems likely that he would become a key player at Juventus if he was to join them, and this could sway him towards the Arsenal exit door even if offered a new deal.
