Loam is a restaurant on the ground floor of the Ace hotel in Surry Hills, Sydney. They serve all day brekkie until 2:30, lunch and dinner.
They deliver a menu that changes seasonally, and showcasing produce from independent farmers and fishermen. Fresh vegetable based dishes, cheeses, seafoods and meat proteins, the menu felt very fresh and farm-to-table esque.
We had originally booked for Kiln, but preferred a cheaper and more casual option and the venue was kind enough to swap it only hours prior to a table at loam. We are grateful to them for this.
It was an early dinner, and we were the only table for the first half hour and surprised about this for it was a Saturday night. So if you struggle to get a booking somewhere, look this up! The lower bar area had a DJ playing and the ambience was fun.
We would have happily ordered much of their menu and eventually settled our decision for a few things to share. The lamb was perfectly cooked, slightly red in the middle, charred outside and severed with a mojo-verde, mint, parsley, lemon sauce.
Their ocean trout was probably the best we’ve had in a very long time. The fish had a crispy skin, and was served with a charred lemon and a beautiful ginger butter.
We ordered the iceberg lettuce as a side and it was also nice, topped with a miso dressing, radish and sweet onion. But our favourite thing ever came with this meal – their fries with BLOODY MARY salt. Omg so good, we could have eaten these for days. The Sydney chip hunter better come find these!
We could order cocktails from the bar and really enjoyed them too.
The service was impeccable, taking the order fast, bringing the order out in good time and also checking in multiple times.
The whole experience cannot be faulted.
