Pollinator Week 2025: A Heartfelt Wrap-Up
Celebrating bees, hoverflies, butterflies, and the gardeners who support them
Pollinator Week 2025 has come to a close, and what a blooming, buzzing, joy-filled week it has been. This year, thousands of gardeners across Australia — from beginners planting their first native flower to long-time native plant lovers — came together to celebrate the tiny winged creatures that keep our ecosystems alive. I shared Australian native plant combinations to try in your garden, pollinator ID guides, bee hotel tips, and daily stories featuring the dazzling diversity of Australia’s native bees, hoverflies, butterflies, and moths.
But the highlight of the week was the launch of A Little Field Guide to Australian Native Pollinator Gardens, a project I poured my heart and soil-loved hands into. This guide became a powerful way not only to inspire pollinator-friendly gardening but also to give back.
A Community Effort: Donations to the Wheen Bee Foundation
Thanks to your incredible support, we raised money for the Wheen Bee Foundation, an Australian charity dedicated to supporting native bees, pollinator research, biodiversity education, and community engagement.
🌼 Total Raised:
- 83 Pollinator Garden Guide eBooks sold
- $282 donated directly to the Wheen Bee Foundation
I am deeply grateful to everyone who purchased a copy, shared a post, or simply learned something new this week. Together, we’ve made a meaningful contribution to protecting Australia’s pollinators and the landscapes they depend on.
🐝 Your Favourite Posts of Pollinator Week
Here are some of the most-loved posts from the week — thank you for every like, comment, message, and share. Your enthusiasm helps this community grow and keeps pollinator conservation alive in people’s hearts.
🌼 Pollinator Garden Guide
This post introduced the heart of Pollinator Week 2025 — A Little Field Guide to Australian Native Pollinator Gardens. Designed as a gentle, practical companion for gardeners, the guide brings together my recommended Australian natives for pollinator-friendly gardens, pollinator ID pages, bee hotel tips, and simple Australian native planting recipes to bring more pollinators into your garden. It quickly became the week’s most shared post and helped raise funds for the Wheen Bee Foundation through ebook sales.
🌼 Pollinator Planting Recipes
This was the official launch of the guide, featuring some of the most popular native plant combinations from the week — including blue and gold pollinator palettes, cottage-style drifts, and seasonal native flower pairings. These planting recipes are designed to attract native bees, hoverflies, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators while keeping a richly ornamental, flower-forward garden style.
🪴 Pollinator Garden Ideas
In this reel, I feature a series of Australian native plants that are particularly valuable for pollinator gardens — from long-flowering daisies to blue-toned favourites that attract blue-banded bees and hoverflies. Short, colourful, and easy to save, this reel brought together the most accessible pollinator-friendly planting ideas for small spaces, balconies, and beginner gardeners.
💙 Blue-banded Bee
The blue-banded bee is one of Australia’s most beloved native pollinators, known for its electric-blue stripes and fast, hummingbird-like flight. This reel captured their movement, their preference for blue and purple native flowers, and the joy of spotting them in the garden. It was one of the most-watched posts during Pollinator Week and sparked conversations about how to support buzz-pollinating native bees.
✨ Hoverflies
Hoverflies are often mistaken for bees, but they are gentle, essential pollinators — and their larvae provide natural pest control by feeding on aphids. This reel highlighted the beauty and ecological value of hoverflies in native gardens, showing their behaviour up close and pairing them with the flowers they love most, including Brachyscome and Paper Daisies.
🐝 Looking Ahead
Pollinator Week may be over, but the work of supporting pollinators continues all year long. I’ll be sharing more plant combinations, seasonal planting tips, pollinator ID guides, and native garden inspiration throughout the year — and of course, I’ll keep updating the Field Guide as new discoveries land in the garden.
Thank you for being part of this vibrant, kind-hearted, pollinator-loving community. Your gardens — from balconies to bush blocks — make a difference.
Here’s to more colour, more creatures, and more life in our gardens.
With gratitude,
