My Top Books Read In 2023

Final post of my reading for the year 2023! I read a total of 45 books, fewer than all the years before but that's cause I'm busy. Though I will say, for a student, I feel like 45 books is still a decent amount of reading. Below are some books I would recommend from my reading this year, not in any particular order. Even though I didn't read as much, I've definitely tried to step out of my comfort zone (thanks to school) and read multiple genres. Anyways, cheers to books, reading, and a new year!

1. Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood. 

Of course, Ali Hazelwood will and will continue to make this list. Theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway has a Ph.D. in physics (literally couldn't be me) but is in desperate need of a teaching position. She's hopeful at MIT until a certain Jack Smith, brother of her "boyfriend," shows up at threatens to ruin everything. But their chemistry OMG, a must-read. And can we mention the beautiful cover?? A different genre from normal and honestly so insightful. I knew but didn't knew about the struggles but I feel that Dr. Nott really described them well in the novel. I think about the work he does, being able to learn such skills and apply them to help others. When Breath Becomes Air, here I come! Review here   

3. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

I'm still not too sure why I waited so long to read a book by Taylor Jenkins Reid like hello?? The plot twist OMG totally didn't see it coming. It kept me on my toes the entire time and I'm pretty sure it only took a couple of hours for me to finish reading it. Review coming soon!

I will say, this was probably one of my favorite books from English class the entire year. Such an amazing comparison between East Egg and West Egg, Fitzgerald definitely sparked some intriguing discussions in my class.

This was also another book I waited to read though I shouldn't have. I ended up reading it because the TV show was airing, and me being me, I try to read the books before watching the live adaptations. The suspense just kept building and building and before I knew it, I finished the book at like six in the morning. Review here    

CoHo will never fail to break my heart and make me cry. This was actually a reread that I happened to start in the morning and continue through English class. Eventually I just sat in the back of class sobbing as I read the last chapters. Out of all of CoHo's book, I think this one is universally liked whether you're a fan of CoHo or not, so it's definitely worth checking out. Review here    

7. Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood.

Another Ali Hazelwood! This is her debut YA novel and, of course, I thought it was such a cute read (though I know just about nothing about chess). I really hope she writes more YA novels because it was just so relaxing and fun to read. Also the cover slays again. Review here
