Christian Family Care Celebrates 40 Years!

A short reel on Christian Family Care celebrates 40 Years of strengthening families and serving at-risk children in the name of Jesus Christ.

In 1982, CFC was founded by Kay Ekstrom and a group of Christians from several local churches in the Phoenix area. Compelled by their beliefs, they developed the vision of a Christian social services agency that would serve children through Christian families by providing foster care, pregnancy counseling and adoption services. Later that year, CFC received its licensing as a 501(c)(3), nonprofit social services agency.

Since our foundation, thousands of children who came to us in crisis are now part of healthy families and many have come to know the Lord as their personal Savior.

Today, our organization has expanded beyond foster care and adoption. Our influence and services have expanded to now 10 programs that include: Foster Care, Infant and DCS Adoption, Arizona Family Counseling, Family Care Learning, Hand in Hand Pregnancy, STRONG Families for Children (formerly known as Safe Families for Children), Family Care KIDS, Mentoring program.

Our mission is to strengthen families and serve at-risk children in the name of Jesus Christ and our vision is to see every child loved and nurtured in a Christ-centered family. These have always remained the heart behind all of the work we do in each of our programs.

With our expansion of support services, came exponential growth of impact and the need for more staff! In 2019, Christian Family Care consolidated its three Phoenix offices into one building on Central Avenue, opened a new office in Prescott, and continues to serve in Southern Arizona with an office in Tucson. Each facility is designed to increase collaboration and improve our team’s ability to deliver quality support services throughout the entire state. We also have two thrift stores located in Phoenix and Tucson. Today, we have a total of 118 employees!

God has been our guide through these past 40 years and has blessed us with amazing partners like the numerous families, churches, and caring neighbors we work with that help us to achieve our mission and vision.

As a private nonprofit, 501(c)(3) social services agency, we help any child or family in need regardless of color, culture, disability, ethnic group, gender, race, religion, or socioeconomic status.

Thanks to the help of our financial donors, 84¢ of every dollar donated to CFC goes directly to services for vulnerable and traumatized children, to meet their deepest needs of love, family, and security.

CFC is a member of and audited by the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, Charity Navigator, and Excellence in Giving. We are licensed by the state of Arizona and accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) since 2002 and have also been awarded top Christian workplace now nine years in a row! A portion of our funding comes from contracts with the State, as well as insurance companies and individuals we serve. However, those fees do not fully cover our expenses because we provide services that go above and beyond what is required by the State. Throughout the years, we’ve depended on private donors, grants, foundations, and other fundraising activities.
