How religious faith and AI, compare and contrast as to moral questions.
August 3, 2025
Like many others I have watched AI and wondered what the Lord had to say about such a human tool relating to society on earth and the TRUTH found in heaven and His holy Word.
I heard it said by an early pioneer in the science of AI that it is good for data analysis but poor in the field of discovery. Or what is revealing answers to scientific questions and inquiry from it’s own intelligence. I would surmise from that statement AI is like a giant data base. Much like Microsoft Excel software in which the data can be manipulated to give forth more relevant information in which to make assumptions or decisions.
The United States has recently invested heavily in AI, and has put forth plans to use it to search for answers to complex problems like human diseases such as cancer. The person of faith can see using AI for a morally good pursuit.
But we should also see and comprehend the first word, “Artificial”. That word alone should show us and should warn us of the dangers associated with this powerful tool of AI. One can look at social media like TikTok and You Tube and see an echo chamber vortex going from “Intelligence” to a numbing down and addictive behavior all in the name of “profits”. This is the same stratagem use by casinos to keep the gambler glued to their seats, losing track of time and continuing to spend and to make money for the casino, or giving more time to sell advertising in social media.
The people of a moral religious faith believe in a God who is absolute TRUTH, and that TRUTH is only found in absolute LOVE. There is nothing in that TRUTH which is “Artificial”.
“Intelligence” relating to religious faith is found only in the Word of God. From “above” is found “The Way” to knowledge, intelligence and finally Wisdom. It is far above the ability of Artificial Intelligence and much more of a “surety” than AI.
Like the printing press, the cotton gin and space satellites, AI is a gigantic leap forward if used in a responsible manner. But we of the new emerging church on earth should only see it as a wonderful tool to bless our earthly friends while we continue to serve and honor the Lord.
By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
(Hebrews 7:22)
