Stewarts & Roses

Social media algorithms choose content for you. How great would it be if Karen content was replaced with anti-Karen content? The post Stewarts & Roses appeared first on .

I don’t watch the news because it is too negative. Dozens of words, phrases, and people are muted/blocked on my X feed, because their purpose is to anger, outrage, or disgust.

With all my safeguards, I can’t escape stumbling on a “Karen” video (a woman, often white and middle-aged, behaving in an entitled or confrontational manner). It was funny the first time, now it’s depressing.

The problem is that Karen videos are far more prevalent than positive news, even when you try to engineer your social media to skew towards the optimistic. Part of the problem is the catchiness, trendiness, and ubiquitousness of the word Karen in the modern vernacular (a sentence riddled with SAT words that reads like it was generated with a thesaurus in hand…sorry Ms. Albright [11th grade English teacher]). What if there was an alternative?

I am introducing Stewarts & Roses, the anti-Karens. Why two? I think it is important to have positive representation for men and women.

What to Highlight

  • Covering the cost of someone’s meal or groceries
  • Adopting a dog (puppy or perhaps a dog in their latter stages of life)
  • Assisting the elderly (old school crossing the street or carrying a heavy load)
  • Surprising a stranger with a gift or opportunity
  • Volunteering time for a worthy cause
  • Random positive affirmations
  • Showing appreciation for others (thank yous and compliments)
  • Mentoring/Teaching

I know that it’s a very naive, corny, innocent, and ideal list, but Stewart and Rose are naive, corny, innocent idealists. If I’m going to procrastinate, I’d rather do it by watching videos that put a smile on my face.
