"Be yourself, Sarah. All anyone wants is for you to just be yourself," Ferguson told The Telegraph when asked about Queen Elizabeth's kind words.

"It's taken me this long to get there," she added.

Ferguson and the queen seemed to have a tight bond, as the latter inherited the monarch's beloved corgis when she died in 2022.

"I have her dogs, I have her corgis. Every morning, they come in and go 'woof woof' and all that, and I'm sure it's her talking to me," Ferguson shared. "I'm sure it's her, reminding me she's still around."

Ferguson has fond memories of Queen Elizabeth, but the duo didn't always get along.

Royal Expert Andrew Lownie wrote about Her Majesty's disappointment in the ex-duchess after she offered a journalist access to the royal family for money.

"The queen described Sarah as the type of person who was beyond experiencing guilt, shame or regret for her terrible actions because all she cared about was herself and nobody else," Lownie wrote on his Substack.

"The queen said Sarah was 'remorseless,'" he added.

In 2010, Ferguson was caught offering Mazher Mahmood, an undercover journalist, an introduction to her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

"I can open any door you want, and I will for you. Look after me, and he'll look after you. … You'll get it back tenfold," Ferguson told Mahmood.

She later apologized for the scandal.

"I very deeply regret the situation and the embarrassment caused. It is true that my financial situation is under stress," she said in a statement. "However, that is no excuse for a serious lapse in judgment, and I am very sorry that this has happened."
