Mary Elizabeth Winstead rumored as MCU’s new She-Hulk for ‘Secret Wars’

Could the 'Ahsoka' star, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, be suiting up as Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk?

The Marvel rumor mill is churning again, and this time it’s got Ahsoka star Mary Elizabeth Winstead in its sights. Word on the street (and by street, we mean every corner of the internet) suggests that Winstead could be taking over the role of She-Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially making her green-skinned debut as early as Avengers: Secret Wars. While Marvel Studios has kept characteristically mum on the matter, fans are already doing what they do best: speculating wildly and making fan art.

The buzz comes amid ongoing discussions about Tatiana Maslany, who brought attorney Jennifer Walters to life in Disney Plus’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Maslany has been vocal about her frustrations with Disney and Marvel, including some eyebrow-raising comments made during Jimmy Kimmel’s temporary absence from late-night television that allegedly ruffled some corporate feathers. Whether these criticisms have any bearing on potential recasting remains purely speculative, but in Hollywood, where there’s smoke, there’s often at least a small fire (or gamma radiation experiment gone wrong).

From Star Wars to Marvel: Mary Elizabeth Winstead May Have She-Hulk in Her Future

Winstead certainly has the credentials for the gig. She’s already part of the Disney family, having stepped into the live-action role of Hera Syndulla in the Star Wars universe’s Ahsoka series. Her marriage to Ewan McGregor (yes, the Obi-Wan Kenobi) only strengthens those Disney ties. Plus, she’s proven she can handle action-heavy roles with that perfect blend of charm, toughness, and humor that Jennifer Walters demands. That spunky, attractive energy she brings to her performances could translate beautifully to a character who breaks the fourth wall while smashing through actual walls.

Interestingly, when Marvel was originally casting She-Hulk, industry whispers suggested they were seeking an “Alison Brie type.” While we at Nerdspin would absolutely lose our minds over Brie in jade-green CGI (because who wouldn’t?), Winstead fits that same mold of quick-witted, physically capable performers who can sell both courtroom drama and superhero spectacle.

Here’s the thing: She-Hulk is a genuinely fantastic character in the comics, a fourth-wall-breaking lawyer with super strength who deserves to shine in the MCU. If a recast is what it takes to give Jennifer Walters the treatment she deserves, then so be it. Winstead would be an incredible choice, even if she’s not our first pick. The actress has the range, the presence, and frankly, the Disney connections to make it happen.

Until Marvel confirms or denies anything, we’ll be over here refreshing our feeds and keeping our fingers crossed.
