SACRAMENTO, CA – As ballots are mailed throughout California and voting centers open, Health Access California announces its endorsement of Proposition 50, the Election Rigging Response Act. The following is a statement from Health Access California Executive Director Amanda McAllister-Wallner:
“Health Access California is proud to join the broad coalition of organizations and leaders across the state fighting to defend our democracy and support Proposition 50.
Elections have consequences – or at least they should. But if the Trump Administration has its way, it will do everything it can to erode fair and free elections that are at the center of our democracy.
Through their attempts to rig elections in their favor, the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans want to dodge accountability for their votes on H.R. 1 in order to hold onto the slim majority that allowed them to cut nearly $1 trillion from our health care system so that they can give huge tax breaks to corporate CEOs and billionaires.
Two votes in the House of Representatives could have prevented over 30 million Americans from losing health care coverage. But instead, all of our Republican California Congress members turned their backs on the people they were elected to represent. H.R. 1 is one of the most unpopular bills ever passed by Congress, and the biggest cut to our health care in American history. Our elected leaders must answer to their constituents for these votes.
Our state has led the nation in expanding access to health care, protecting patients, and building on the promise of the Affordable Care Act. We cannot risk ceding additional ground to those who would dismantle our health system and cut care for the most vulnerable.Health Access California supports Proposition 50 so we can ensure that our elected leaders put the health and well-being of our families over the profits of corporations. Voting Yes on Proposition 50 is about ensuring that California continues to be a national leader in fighting for health equity, affordable care, and accountability from those in power.”
Health Access California is a 501 (C)4 organization that engages in direct lobbying and advocacy towards the goal of quality, affordable, equitable health care for all Californians.
