WESTFIELD, Ind. — Community Health Network marked a major construction milestone Thursday with a topping-out ceremony for its new hospital in Westfield, signaling significant progress toward the facility’s scheduled spring 2027 opening.  

The event celebrated the placement of the final steel beam atop the six-story patient tower at the burgeoning Community Hospital Westfield campus, a centerpiece of the broader health care expansion designed to serve one of Indiana’s fastest-growing communities.  

“Westfield and surrounding areas are experiencing tremendous growth, and with that comes an increased need for accessible, comprehensive healthcare,” said Dr. Patrick McGill, president and CEO of Community Health Network, during the ceremony. “Community Hospital Westfield will ensure families and businesses in this region have the care they need without having to travel far.”  

The project represents a roughly $335 million investment by the Indianapolis-based health system and encompasses a 425,000-square-foot campus featuring an ambulatory surgery center, emergency department, medical office building and the inpatient tower. Guidon has led the planning, architecture, interior design and structural engineering processes. Other project partners include CMTA, Pepper Construction, RVI Hitchcock Design Group, Cripe, Lenex, IMH Healthcare and others.

The new hospital will offer a wide range of services, including emergency care, advanced adult and newborn critical care, integrative outpatient services, and specialty care in areas such as women’s health, orthopedics, primary care and behavioral health. When complete, the hospital will be able to offer 112 patient beds. An additional shell space will expand capacity by another 64 patient beds.

Situated near 196th Street and U.S. 31 on the site of a former business park, the campus will include renovated structures at 19800 and 19900 East Street repurposed to house medical offices, outpatient imaging, cardiovascular care and multiple clinical specialties — a strategy expected to save more than $50 million compared with building new.  

The medical office building opened in April 2025, already providing integrative medicine, women’s health, pediatrics, orthopedics and heart and vascular services.  

Key members of the project team include Dr. McGill, along with Beth Tharp, senior vice president of hospital acute care services, both of whom signed the final steel beam at the topping-out event. Community Health Network’s leadership has also worked closely with design and construction partners, including Guidon, which led healthcare planning and architectural design, and CMTA, Inc., which provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering as well as acoustic design services.  

“When completed, this campus will be a hub of comprehensive care for our community,” said Jason Fahrlander, Community’s chief operating officer, in earlier project statements. “This new state-of-the-art healthcare campus aligns with our mission to enhance health and well-being in the communities we serve.”  

Construction continues through 2026, with the hospital and ambulatory surgery center on schedule to open in spring 2027. When finished, the facility is expected to significantly expand access to quality health care close to home for Westfield residents and the surrounding Hamilton County region.
