What You’ll Need
- A CR2032 battery (a standard lithium coin cell)
- A flathead screwdriver or a coin
Step-by-Step Instructions Ford Fiesta 2011–2019
Step 1: Remove the Mechanical Key First, flip the key fob over. Press the small silver button on the back and pull out the physical key blade (also known as the emergency key).
Step 2: Open the Fob Case With the key blade removed, you’ll see a small notch where you can pry the case open. Insert your flathead screwdriver or coin into the notch and gently twist until the fob separates into two halves.
Step 3: Remove the Old Battery Inside, you’ll find the CR2032 battery. Carefully lift the old battery out with your tool or a fingernail. Make a mental note of the battery’s orientation—the positive (+) side typically faces up.
Step 4: Insert the New Battery Take the new CR2032 battery and insert it with the positive (+) side facing up. Make sure it is fully seated and flush with the contacts.
Step 5: Reassemble the Key Fob Align the two halves of the fob and press them together until they click into place. Slide the metal key blade back in until it locks securely.
Final Step: Test Your Key Fob Stand near your Ford Fiesta and test the lock, unlock, and remote start (if available) functions to ensure the new battery is working properly.

When to Replace Your Key Fob Battery Ford Fiesta 2011–2019
Ford key fob batteries typically last 2 to 3 years. If your fob becomes unresponsive or starts working only at close range, it’s a clear sign that it’s time for a replacement.
Pro Tip: Keep a spare CR2032 battery in your glove box. It’s an inexpensive item that can save you a lot of trouble if your fob suddenly stops working. Source: Terry Whin-Yates Mr. Locksmith Linkedin
