When it comes to remote work style, it really depends on the job. Back when I worked in finance, I dressed up a little more—even from home. These days, as someone who works for herself, has two young kids and creates content from home – but also goes into my team office most days – my wardrobe leans business casual with a strong emphasis on comfort and polish.
If you’re on camera in Zoom meetings often, that will factor into what you wear. But no matter your setup, getting ready in the morning matters. It signals the start of your day, boosts productivity, and makes it easier to transition from “home mode” to “work mode.”
Here are ten of my go-to work-from-home outfits that balance comfort and camera-ready. Think soft fabrics, easy pieces, and elevated basics you can move in (and Zoom in). Or, if you want full-on loungewear, I’ve got ideas for that, too.
10 Comfortable & Cute Work-from-Home Outfits
1. Jeans + Elevated Top
This is obviously a no-brainer, but wearing jeans instead of leggings makes all the difference in productivity for me. I pair classic jeans with a funnel neck sweater or a cardigan sweater.
Pro tip: Stretch denim makes this combo extra wearable. See my roundup of the best jeans here.
2. Wide-Leg or Barrel Jeans + Fitted Tee + Blazer
This combo feels effortless but styled. The volume on the bottom of wide-leg jeans balances a slim-fit tank or body-skimming tee on top. Throw on a classic blazer to finish it off (and for warmth in the cooler months). Great for standing meetings or school pickups right after.
Pro tip: Add gold jewelry or a simple belt to pull it together.

3. Shirt Dress (Short or Long)
Shirt dresses are a WFH staple since they’re put together but don’t cling. I love my Vivianne Sweater Dress from Tuckernuck in the fall, winter, and even cold spring days. If you want a longer option, I recommend this Cashblend Sweater Dress from Splendid – it looks so cozy and elegant.
Pro tip: Add a wide belt for shape, and wear with sneakers for a more casual look.
More styling tips:
4. Matching Set
Whether it’s a cashmere set or a Spanx Air Essentials set (which has a cult following for good reason), matching sets make it look like you tried, but are still great for working in bed (which we all do, let’s be honest). They look intentional even when they sometimes feel like loungewear. Another set I have to shoutout are these waffle knit pants from Negative (I also have the matching waffle knit top). It’s so cozy and makes you feel cute too.
Pro tip: Choose sets in neutral tones for easy accessorizing.
5. Midi Skirt + Crewneck Sweater
A wool skirt like this (or this petite-friendly wool skirt I have) and a crewneck sweater is the comfiest way to look polished. This is a great option if you’re in the office for meetings in the morning and home the rest of the day.
Pro tip: Look for skirts with elastic waists for that WFH comfort factor. If you’re petite, don’t sleep on Petite Studio’s skirts (full review here).
6. Jumpsuit or Romper
One and done! I love a fleece jumpsuit for days when I don’t want to think about what matches what. I’m eyeing this Varley jumpsuit – so chic and high quality.
Pro tip: Add earrings (I love these twist earrings from Monica Vinader – there’s also a crazy similar Amazon dupe of them) and white sneakers and it’ll feel more styled than sweats, but just as easy.
7. Trouser Pants + Button Down
Trousers are an everyday, sophisticated staple for cooler months. Pair with a classic button-down and a belt. I just ordered these thicker trousers from Varley, and really hope they work because they’re so cute.
8. Button-Down with Anything
Seriously — throw it over leggings, tuck it into jeans, pair it with trousers. A crisp button-down upgrades everything. Here’s how to style a button-down if you need more ideas.
Pro tip: Keep one “Zoom-ready” button-down on a hook in your office for last-minute meetings.
Frank & Eileen carries some of my absolute favorite button-downs and other timeless basics (I have a full Frank & Eileen review here)
9. Wide Leg Sweatpants + an Elevated Top
Cozy on the bottom, but still polished for Zoom meetings. Go for elevated sweats – like these Spanx AirEssentials wide-leg pants – so you stay motivated and look a little more put-together while doing it. Add small gold huggie hoops, and you’ve got an effortless, chic look that never compromises comfort.
10. Loungewear
If I’m having a low-energy day or working late, I’ll reach for elevated loungewear. Think matching ribbed sets (I love this ribbed shirt and wide-leg pant set from Nuuds, cashmere joggers, or buttery soft knit pullovers).
Pro tip: Avoid old sweats unless you want to feel like you’re still in bed.
How Should I Dress When Working from Home?
It depends on your industry, your camera schedule, and your personal preference, but aim for a balance of comfort and polish. Clothes you can move in but still make you feel ready for the day. Business casual is a great baseline– you’ll be more productive when you feel put together.
What to Wear on the First Day of a Remote Job?
Go one notch more polished than you think you’ll need, especially if you’re meeting anyone on video. A white button-down, clean jeans, and simple jewelry never fail and make a great first impression. Skip the hoodie until you know the culture.
Final Thoughts:
Your work-from-home style doesn’t have to be fussy or formal. Build a small, versatile wardrobe of cozy pieces with structure: button-downs, easy dresses, tailored but cozy pants, and matching sets. These help you feel professional, comfortable, and motivated, even if your desk is ten feet from the couch.
