WASHINGTON – In response to Republicans approving a budget reconciliation bill to give the Department of Homeland Security $70 billion more in funding, MoveOn Political Action Chief Communications Officer Joel Payne released the following statement:

“In the same week that Speaker Mike Johnson promised to cut Social Security and Medicare if Republicans stay in power, his caucus showed us just how little they care about working people.

“While millions of Americans are stretching their paychecks and skipping doctor’s visits, Republicans decided that what mattered most was taking another $70 billion of taxpayer money to help Trump’s unaccountable ICE agents terrorize our neighbors.

“We will make sure that voters see how Republicans did nothing to lower prices or make their lives more affordable, and how much they voted to make life easier for billionaire donors, Donald Trump, and the agents who murdered citizens in broad daylight. Our members will make sure that they are held accountable this November for their undeniable allegiance to Trump and the wealthy and well connected.”

As reported in Politico, MoveOn Political Action is running a $27 million election program to win big in the midterms, stop President Trump’s unchecked power, and rebuild trust with more voters, with an eye toward victory in 2028.
