My English Paper Piecing journey continues, quilting friends, and I am happy to say that I am halfway to my summer goal of making 32 hexie flowers. I began working on these red, white and blue one-inch hexies back in April. I now have 16 hexie flowers; the newest five flowers are shown in the tray in this photo.

My goal is to make a grandmother’s flower garden quilt, by following the “Jelly Garden” quilt pattern by Mickey Zimmer of Sweetwater Cotton Shoppe. Mickey’s pattern calls for using a jelly roll, but I’m EPP-ing from my stash. The Jelly Garden pattern calls for 32 full flowers and  6 half flowers. Each full flower contains 1 center hexie, 6 round-one hexies, and 12 round-two hexies.  So, my summer goal of making 32 hexie flowers doesn’t mean I’m halfway through this quilt.  Next summer I’ll have to stitch round two to all the flowers. And the summer after that, I’ll join all the flowers with a gazillion white hexies. But I am totally loving this project. It is very rewarding.

One evening while I was stitching, I had a hankering to crochet a bit.  So, I whipped up these cute stars by following a fun tutorial by Erica Arndt. For the yarn, I used Lori Holt’s Chunky Thread in the colors denim and cloud. Wouldn’t it be cute to crochet several of these stars and make a festive garland?

If you are on Instagram, there are so many EPP experts and cheerleaders to inspire your journey! Just search terms like “English Paper Piecing” or “hexie quilt” in the Instagram search bar and you will be amazed at all the beautiful creations. I’ve started following several lovely people who share their talents and ideas in an encouraging manner.

Thanks for stopping by! Take care!
