Hi Christine. I thought you might be interested is seeing my completed rug. My grandson (26) picked the pattern and it was made for him. I struggled with colour planning until my sister found my late mom's pleated red and blue wool plaid skirt and asked if I wanted it. It is the crosshatch and I am sure this will be an heirloom for her great grandson.

I had very good suggestions from members of my hooking group as I went along. One of the most helpful was to zigzag the keyhole before I ever started to hook because I would be unable to do it on my basic sewing machine once there was wool along it. Because the keyhole is the weakest part of this heavy piece, I corded and whipped it so there is now a slight flare where I transitioned to tape. I am not sure if I might have done that better. Any suggestions incase I meet this situation again? The final good advice was to reinforce the keyhole, which also gave a nice place to sign the rug. I have really enjoyed working on this pattern.

If you enlarge the photo you can see the lovely heirloom red and blue plaid skirt. Sentimentally perfect.
You can see the label and binding along the back of the rug.
