Days after Mumbai Cricket Association secretary claimed that Suryakumar Yadav was likely to be a part of Triumph Knight Mumbai North East against Uganda, the star has opted to skip the clash. SKY finds himself at a very difficult position currently, despite leading Team India to their second T20 World Cup trophy earlier this year. The middle-order batter’s form hasn’t been great – neither for Team India in 2026 or for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2026. While he is expected to take part in the Mumbai T20 League, he has opted to miss the preparatory game against Uganda.
No SKY in clash against Uganda
As per reports, Suryakumar is absent from the contest between Triumph Knight Mumbai North East and Uganda on May 30 (Saturday). Akhil Herwadkar is the captain in SKY’s absence. As per PTI, the Ugandan team is in Mumbai tour for four one-dayers and few T20s; the latter will be played against different set of opponents from the T20 Mumbai League.
There are a lot of reports doing the rounds on what Suryakumar Yadav’s future could be after a poor IPL season. Initially, reports claimed that the MI star could be replaced as the T20I captain for the next cycle, with Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson in fray as the front-runners. After all, SKY is already 35-years-old, and will be well over 37 by the time the next T20 WC comes by. Besides, he hasn’t been in the best of the form in the last 12 months.
After faring exceptionally well in IPL 2025, where he amassed over 700 runs, Suryakumar’s performance in IPL 2026 was abysmal. He only managed to score 270 runs in 13 innings at an average of 20.76. In international cricket, he scored 484 runs from 14 T20is in 2026, with his highest score being an unbeaten 84-run knock against USA in the T20 World Cup. As captain, Suryakumar averages around 28.65 in T20Is, a massive drop from his average of 43.40 when not leading the side.
In addition to this, a report has also claimed that SKY has been left out of the list of probables for the Asian Games, which is scheduled to be held between September 17 to October 3, 2026.
