The Fast-Charging Boom Is On
Even with a dip in EV sales this year, the U.S. charging network is expanding at record speed. In Q2 2025 alone, 4,242 new fast-charging ports were added across 784 stations, a 23.3% increase over the previous quarter.Charging Is Getting Easier
It’s not just about more chargers, it’s about better ones.
-
Tesla Superchargers now average 15+ stalls per site
-
Non-Tesla stations jumped to 3.8 stalls on average
-
63% of new ports deliver 250 kW+, cutting charge times
New stations often include WiFi, restrooms, and snacks, making stops more comfortable. This is real progress EV drivers can feel.
Why Usage Rates Dropped Slightly
Average station use fell from 16.6% to 16.1%. But that’s not bad news.
Many new stations went into low-EV areas as part of a “build-ahead” strategy. Companies like Ionna, BP Pulse, and Mercedes-Benz are building large, high-power stations now so they’re ready as adoption grows.
If the trend holds, the U.S. will hit 100,000 public fast-charging ports by 2027.
What This Means for You
More chargers. Faster speeds. Better access.
Whether you drive a Tesla or another EV, this expansion means less waiting, fewer range worries, and more freedom to travel.
