Amid dire humanitarian conditions, 46 Syrian prisoners are being held in Israel, some in the notorious Sde Teiman camp

The “Record Center” reported that 46 Syrian prisoners are being held in Israeli prisons, according to the latest monitoring data collected by the center.The center explained that the oldest cases of arrest that are still being monitored date back to late 2024, while arrests continued until this August.According to information gathered by the center, the Syrian detainees are located in the Sde Teiman camp and Nafha prison in the Negev desert, and Ofer prison near Ramallah.The center said that the reasons for detention announced by the Israeli authorities in some cases included accusations related to the possession or trafficking of weapons.The center stated, based on the testimonies of 6 recently released prisoners, that the Syrian prisoners were subjected to investigations that covered details of their personal and social lives, their families, their relationships and movements. They also spoke of difficult living conditions, including food shortages, lack of heating during the winter and daily searches.He added that the prisoners reported that during the war with Iran, their hands and feet were tied all day except during mealtimes, according to what they were told by the jailers.According to the center, Syrian prisoners also face restrictions on access to lawyers.He explained that the Syrian prisoners were detained, according to lawyers who followed the case, within the framework of the “unlawful combatants” law, which allows continued detention based on security assessments.The “Record Center” indicated that it also documented 186 cases of detention, whose owners were released within a period not exceeding 24 hours in most cases, noting the difference in the duration of detentions between short arrests and detentions that extended for months and more than a year.
