Mnangagwa effects major government, commission changes

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has effected sweeping changes in government and constitutional commissions, with immediate effect. PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has effected sweeping changes in government and constitutional commissions, with immediate effect.

Tafadzwa Muguti has been moved from the Office of the President and Cabinet to head the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works as Permanent Secretary. 

The announcement was made this Friday by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Martin Rushwaya.

Muguti takes over from John Basera, who has been redeployed to the Zimbabwe Land Commission as Commissioner.

“His Excellency the President, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, acting in terms of Section 205(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and in consultation with the Public Service Commission, has appointed Engineer Tafadzwa Muguti as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works,” Dr Rushwaya said.

In separate appointments, Mnangagwa also named new leadership for three independent commissions.

Former Member of Parliament (MP) Anele Ndebele will now chair the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission in terms of Section 242(1)(a). 

Leslie Ncube has been named Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Gender Commission under Section 245(1)(a). 

Sheuneni Kurasha was appointed Commissioner to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission in terms of Section 238(1)(b).

At the Zimbabwe Land Commission,  Mandivamba Rukuni was appointed Deputy Chairperson under Section 296(1)(a). Mabel Ndakaripa-Hungwe and Basera also join the commission as members.

All appointments are effective immediately.
