Intercontinen7al – “Lipstick On Your Collar”

“Lipstick On Your Collar” is a suavely grooving rock success from Intercontinen7al, a digital project comprising members from all seven continents. The track’s composition and recording took place across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia — seizing upon a soulful rock charisma reminiscent of Unknown Mortal Orchestra. “You are not the guy I need, you are not the guy I want,” the vocals intoxicate alongside hazy guitar pulses and smooth brassy adornments, maintaining a hypnotic and immersive soundscape throughout.

Described as “a virtual band that strictly records music online,” Intercontinen7al formed in 2020, when the pandemic spurred musicians into all sorts of digital collaborations. Members of Columbia, MD-based band Toast used the application BandLab, and that led to a series of fruitful collaborations that eventually culminated in this talented, diverse project.

“Lipstick On Your Collar” features an all-star cast, fronted by the debonair vocals of Netherlands-based artist Rieneke, in addition to a guitar solo from Egyptian artist Jukerok and American artist Dale Pearson’s lovely saxophone additions. The effort is described as “about moving on from a relationship that is no longer beneficial, and realizing your partner is not the person you initially thought.”

Band leader Matt Smith utilizes a funky dexterity in his guitar part, while describing the track as the following: “What if we take the Sonic Highways concept that Foo Fighters had of recording music with artists from several cities in the United States, and totally expand it to move forward.”
