Arsenal are showing serious interest in a transfer for Viktor Gyokeres but the Sporting Lisbon forward has a major concern about moving to the Premier League this January.

The 25-year-old has been superb since switching the English second tier for the Portuguese top-flight in July. Gyokeres boasts 10 goals and five assists in only 13 Liga Portugal games to date. He even boasts an overall haul of 17 goals and eight assists in 20 fixtures for the Leoes.

His record is now attracting interest among the Premier League teams hungry to sign a new goalscorer in January. Correio da Manha even reports that the interest Arsenal are showing in Gyokeres transfer is now causing Sporting Lisbons manager Ruben Amorim to lose sleep.

Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim fears Arsenals interest in Viktor Gyokeres

Amorim no longer feels the 100m (87m) release clause in Gyokeres contract will protect Sporting Lisbon in the January window. The Leoes will not let the Sweden striker leave next month for anything below the clause. But Amorim fears one of his suitors will meet it in full.

Along with Arsenal, London rivals Chelsea are also noted to be interested in a transfer from Sporting Lisbon for Gyokeres. Teams from around Europe are monitoring his form so far this term. He has caught the eye by adapting to Liga Portugal and the Europa League with ease.

But while Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in Gyokeres, the Sporting Lisbon man is unsure about any transfer to the Premier League. That is according to Dean Jones, who now reports the 19-cap striker is not convinced that the English top-flight should be his next destination.

Gyokeres is not sold on the idea of returning to England and proving his skills in the Premier League. Instead, the attacker Mark Robins described as unbelievable for Coventry City may favour a move elsewhere on the continent. He feels the European game may suit him better.

The EFL Championship was often too easy for Gyokeres before he left Coventry for Sporting Lisbon in the summer. He bagged 17 goals plus five assists in 2021/22 and 21 goals plus 10 assists in 2022/23. Gyokeres form last season also fired the Sky Blues into the play-off final.

Yet Gyokeres has dealt Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta a major blow ahead of the January transfer window with the Sporting Lisbon stars concerns about a move to the Premier League. But it would be a risk to pay 100m (87m) if Gyokeres doubts his playing style matches Artetas.
