Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen ahead of the January transfer window.

The striker position is an area that Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen at Arsenal as they search for a proven goalscorer.

In their pursuit of a ruthless finisher, theyve been linked with big-money moves for Osimhen and Brentfords Ivan Toney.

As far as this winter market is concerned, Arsenal would find it difficult to strike a deal for any player as they only have a limited budget to spend.

Brentford are thought to want up to 100 million in exchange for Toney once he returns from his ban for breaching FA betting rules while Napoli have slapped a 150 million price tag on Osimhen.

It is certainly clear that Arsenal are keen on bringing a new striker to the Emirates Stadium as soon as possible. Whilst Gabriel Jesus is an excellent player, hes revealed himself that goalscoring isnt his strength, and the Gunners need someone ruthless in the penalty area.

Although Osimhen has proven he could be that player having plundered 31 goals in 39 appearances last term to help Napoli win the Serie A title, Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of the Nigerian sharpshooter.

Victor Osimhen signs new contract at Napoli

Napoli were confident they could get Osimhen to sign a new deal and theyve managed to achieve that.

As reported by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on X, he wrote: The agreement between Napoli and Victor Osimhen on new deal is 100% done and confirmed.

It will be sealed before Christmas, its imminent. ? Contract until June 2026. ? Huge salary rise for Victor. ? Release clause also confirmed. ? Hes expected to stay in January.

Whilst a new contract has cooled any speculation about him departing the Italian giants, it hasnt ruled him out leaving in the future, though he would likely cost upwards of 150 million.

Is Victor Osimhen worth that much?

Its very unlikely that Arsenal will shell out a triple figure sum on a player after acquiring Declan Rice for 105 million in the summer, however, it would be a statement signing for the Gunners to make in the future.

In the current market, Osimhens value reflects his status as a world-class player and hes one of the best strikers in Europe currently.

That said, shelling out that much on a player would bring instant pressure onto his shoulders and hed be expected to reach incredible levels of goalscoring in the Premier League, perhaps eclipsing the 25-goal mark season after season.

Given there are other strikers available, namely Toney, it doesnt look as though Arsenal will hold out for the phenomenon as hailed by the New Telegraph will instead put their eggs into a different basket following the update over his immediate future.
