Former Arsenal centre-back William Gallas has picked out captain Martin Odegaard as the Gunners stand-out player this season.

Its been a tremendous campaign for the Gunners, who find themselves sitting top of the Premier League by one point heading into this evenings clash with Liverpool.

This mouth-watering tie promises to live up to the hype as several quality stars from both teams go to battle on the field.

Of course, Liverpool have the unstoppable Mohamed Salah cutting in from the right. The Egyptian has terrorised Arsenal over the years with an impressive nine goals and four assists in 15 appearances against them.

As for the Gunners, Gabriel Jesus boasts an excellent record against the Reds having netted six times and supplied four assists in 14 outings across his time in England.

Whilst Arteta also has Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Declan Rice to call upon in this fixture, one man who binds it all together in red and white is Martin Odegaard.

The Norwegian has come on leaps and bounds under Arteta and has now fulfilled his potential as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

William Gallas believes Martin Odegaard is Arsenals stand-out player

Having spent four years at Arsenal between 2006 and 2010, William Gallas learned from the best.

The Frenchman played with so many unbelievable players at the Emirates Stadium, including Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie and Thierry Henry.

It is, therefore, clear that Gallas knows a world-class player when he sees one, which is why hes showered Odegaard with praise for the incredible role he plays in Artetas midfield.

Speaking to Gentside, he said: When you have a player likeMartin Odegaard, who for me is a midfield maestro and a player who can change matches, its easier.Against Brighton, he was magnificent to watch. He was incredible.I just want it to be consistent. If he is consistent until the end of the season, the team will cause problems for their opponents in big matches.Arteta brought this desire to the whole group. The players fight for each other.

Hailed as the best player in the league after that performance against Brighton, Odegaard is deserving of all the praise hes received this season.

Hes the creative force behind their star-studded attack and is excellent at threading passes through the eye of a needle.

Only Bukayo Saka has created more big chances and supplied more key passes per game than Odegaard in the Arsenal.

This just demonstrates how crucial the 240k-a-week star is to linking midfield to attack with his outstanding technical ability, spraying passes through the thirds and being an all-round menace against the opposition.

Against Liverpool this evening, theyll need the 25-year-old to occupy pockets of space and hurt the Reds with his exceptional passing range as Arsenal aim to win at Anfield for the first time since 2012.
