Most artificial turf has a melting point of about 200 degrees. As durable as turf is these days, window glare can melt your turf within hours. You may find brittle, discolored and frayed blades of grass in certain areas of your synthetic lawn; this can be a direct result of the sun being reflected on the problem area.

Energy efficient windows can be great for keeping the inside of your home cool and comfortable. They will block the sun’s ultraviolet and infrared rays from getting into your home but will also reflect all of that energy away from your home and in some cases right onto your beautiful artificial turf! Protect your turf as soon as possible to get the most out of your turf investment.

Before your turf is laid out and placed in your yard, your installer may require you to install screens on your windows. This isn’t a random request, so heed their advice! Screens are a great way to filter out the hot reflective temps and keep your lawn from being damaged through window glare.

Installing screens on every window can be a bit expensive and a weird shaped window can make those costs even higher. Luckily there is a cheaper alternative to screening your windows. Installing window film on your windows can break up the reflective energy. Anti-glare window film can be easily installed and is preferred by some homeowners because it is less obtrusive than window screens.

Planting trees and other foliage can help as well. Shade from nearby vegetation can reduce window glare problems drastically. However, this is very time consuming and may not be of substantial size to prevent damage.
