Beatles Tribute Show Returns To Sydney Opera House With Thirsty Merc, Southern Sons Alumni

The show will see more than 40 musicians onstage to play a suite of Beatles classics.

An annual Beatles tribute bonanza, All You Need Is Love, will return to the Sydney Opera House next week to kick 2024 off on a celebratory note.

The show, which first launched in 2015 but hasn’t been staged since 2020 (on account of the COVID-19 pandemic), routinely sees more than 40 musicians onstage – including the Strawberry Fields rock orchestra and The Day Tripper Band – to perform hits from The Beatles’ sprawling back-catalogue.

Taking the mic on lead vocals will be Ciaran Gribbin, Jackson Thomas, Rai Thistlethwayte (of Thirsty Merc fame) and Jack Jones (Southern Sons). They’re said to be delivering “a grand show in a grand setting”, treating The Beatles’ timeless classics “with the love and respect they deserve”.

They’ll perform three shows at the Opera House: one on the night of Monday January 1, then both matinee and nighttime shows on Tuesday January 2. Among the songs vouched to be included in their sets are Yesterday, Yellow Submarine, Across The Universe, A Day In The Life, Something and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Tickets for all three shows are on sale now – find them here.

The show is presented by The Beatles Live, who deal exclusively in high-profile tributes to the Fab Four. Earlier this year, they hosted a national tour celebrating The White Album, performed in full by a supergroup comprised of Chris Cheney (of The Living End), Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon), Tim Rogers (You Am I) and Josh Pyke.

In other Beatles news, the band recently returned to the spotlight with the release of their last-ever song, Now And Then. Back in April, too, we saw the unearthing of the band’s earliest-known live recording.
