Dutch low-cost carrier Transavia Airlines, part of the Air France-KLM group, has taken delivery of its first A321neo on lease from Air Lease Corporation

On December 19, 2023, the Air France-KLM Group took delivery of a first A321neo aircraft, to be operated by the Dutch low-cost carrier Transavia Airlines.

Benjamin Smith, the CEO of Air France-KLM, expressed his enthusiasm, emphasizing the shift towards quieter, less polluting, and more fuel-efficient aircraft.

The A321neo, with its 232 seats in a single-class configuration, will operate its first commercial flight out of Amsterdam Schiphol airport on January 5, 2024.

‘Beginning of a New Chapter’

“This is the beginning of a new chapter for Transavia and for the Group,” stated Benjamin Smith. The strategic investment in the A320neo family, comprising 100 aircraft with purchase rights for an additional 60, reaffirms the group’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint.

The long-term vision goes beyond upgrading the fleet; it is a commitment to leading the industry towards a more sustainable future.

The A320neo family boasts the latest technological innovations, setting new benchmarks in performance.

With a 50% noise reduction, a 15% decrease in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, and a unit cost reduction exceeding 10%, these aircraft align seamlessly with the network needs of the Group’s airlines.

The incorporation of these cutting-edge features underscores Air France-KLM’s pursuit of excellence in eco-friendly aviation.

Timely Fleet Renewal

Transavia France and KLM are poised to receive their A320neo family aircraft in early January and by mid-year 2024, respectively.

This strategic fleet renewal serves as a tangible step towards immediate CO2 and noise emissions reduction.

Combined with sustainable aviation fuels and operational measures like eco-piloting, it forms a crucial pillar of the Group’s ambitious decarbonization trajectory.

Charting a Sustainable Course

The Group’s decarbonization trajectory outlines a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger/km by 2030 compared to 2019.

Fleet renewal emerges as a key driver, with an anticipated 81% share of new generation aircraft in the Group’s fleet by 2030, a substantial leap from the 21% in 2023.

Since the 2000s, Air France-KLM has already achieved a commendable 40% reduction in its noise footprint.
