Intro: No matter how much passion you have for running your own business, at some point, you might hit a puddle or wall. If you feel your enthusiasm for your business is beginning to fade, it will not only slow you down, but can also have lasting consequences for your business.

Thankfully, by taking proactive To Do steps, you can reclaim the drive and energy that compelled you to start your business, so that you can keep growing.

To help you avoid burning out along your journey, we asked a panel of Forbes Coaches Council members for advice. Below, they share 12 things that entrepreneurs can do immediately to rekindle their entrepreneurial passion

1. Unplug your Activities & Schedule more Breaks

Be honest, take a break and unplug !!! If you can take a vacation, do so. 3R’s = Rest, Rejuvenate and Refresh your mind, body and soul. And here’s one piece of advice you must consider to ensure your longevity: Schedule your future vacations and personal time off. –

2. Go for A Higher Purpose

Most businesses make a difference in people’s lives in some way, but it’s easy to lose sight of this when you’re caught up in the daily grind. For this reason, our business recently aligned around two of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that were adopted by all United Nations Member States five years ago to put an end to poverty and protect the planet. So, when the going gets tough, this helps us to reconnect to our big “Why = SDGs ” and look for the greater meaning in what we’re doing.

3. Renew your Vision thru Learning

One of my favorite things to do when things get to be a drag in my business, is to learn. I need to spend time at 10,000 feet in a stage of visioning. Throwing on an Audio book in the morning – while I prepare – fuels me with ideas and creativity, putting me in this state of mind. Vision helps my company grow, and I can adjust and pivot based on the wisdom of others on the Team.

4. Count your Blessings

A gratitude mindset is a powerful energizing force to help you lead your best life. Take time to actually write down everything you like or love about your business and the people you serve. Invest time to thank people personally. Adopt gratitude as a daily practice to start & end each day. Your focus on the good will re-ignite the spark, and your ongoing grateful spirit will catch on like wildfire to your Team. –

5. DeCompress

Running your own business, while incredibly rewarding, is often filled with great stress. What do you do when it starts affecting your passion? The keyword I use here with my candidates is “de-compress.” In other words, 1) step aside for a moment, 2) enjoy something new (or old), 3) adjust your viewpoint, 4) rest and relax. Then, one can usually come back with renewed perspective & energy.

6. Remember the Value of Your Contribution !!!

Step back, create some space to breathe and remember why you are doing this. Who are your beneficiaries? How is what you are doing going to bring value to your clients/ customers, your community, your team, you and your family? Allowing yourself to focus on your “why” and your contribution reminds you of the value you are proposing to others, and it has proven restorative benefits for your well-being.

7.Look for more Opportunities

Just flip your disengagement by asking questions: Schedule a Team meeting once a month to talk about the SWOT of our business. (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities & Threats). More Questions are: “What makes me feel bored? What triggers my lack of passion?” Then, look for the opportunities in different situations. If you can delegate those disengaging tasks, do it. If you can’t, change them into a competition with yourself. Set rational & attainable goals. How many offers (RFQs) can draft in a day? How many prospects can you reach in a week? Reward yourself and you Team, for any progress you make.

8. Hire Passionate People

Hire Positive People. You can often find people as excited about your vision as you. Look for them. Hire them as contractors (or other providers), part-time or full-time. They can bring the energy you need to carry your vision further. Passion can grow out of collaboration, but you need to be very intentional about finding people who don’t just want and need a job, but who can also take on the mission of your business and make a significant contribution.

9. Refocus thru Quiet Mindfulness

Fatigue and burnout can happen to anyone, and they actually occur most commonly among those who are the most passionate about their work. It is impossible to maintain a high level of energy and focus at all times, day in and day out. There will always be ebbs and flows of creative energy and passion. So, cut yourself a break and take the opportunity to exercise Mindfulness (mindfulness is the practice of focusing on the present, without judgment)

10. Revisit your Purpose to find out if it still Matters

It is valuable to ask yourself what might be at the core of your feelings. If it is burnout, then taking a break to re-energize is in order. Connect to your purpose that led you to this business, and reflect on whether this is still important to you. If it’s not, re-evaluate the path you’re on. However, if you’re still driven by this purpose, engage more actively with it to re-ignite your passion.

11. Check In with a Client you’ve helped

On a regular Schedule (ie, once a week) contact a Client you have helped. It’s amazing what positive reinforcement and the recollection of the Gr8 impact that you have made in your sliver of the world can do for yours & their morale.

12. Re-Discover the Positive (+) Impact you want to make

By re-discovering the positive impact you wish to create in the world, and then breaking it into smaller, component parts, entrepreneurs can choose one element to crush this week, month or quarter. This process of “micro-visioning” can infuse your schedule with recurring inspiration for you and your team. Be sure to celebrate those mini-victories along the way (ie, with a reward to your Team).
