The newly crowned winner of Germany’s Next Top Model has been revealed to be a flight attendant for Eurowings, the low-cost subsidiary of German flag carrier Lufthansa. And she’s already secured her first cover girl photoshoot… for the airline’s in-house on-board magazine.

Germany’s Next Top Model, based on America’s Next Top Model and hosted by supermodel Heidi Klum, has been running since 2006, and in its 21st season, Aurélie Carina, a young 22-year-old with Brazilian roots, and now living in the town of Pulheim, snatched the trophy.

The summer front cover for Wings magazine.

But what’s next for Aurélie? Well, it turns out that she has no intention of hanging up her wings and leaving her job as a flight attendant. And her employer, Eurowings, couldn’t be more thrilled.

In fact, the airline has decided to reward her by making her the cover star of its in-flight magazine.

The cover sees Aurélie posing in her uniform in front of a Eurowings airplane while making a ‘heart’ sign with her hands. The magazine has been loaded in the seatback pockets of Eurowings planes across Europe since July 1 and will be on board for the next two months.

Around five million Eurowings passengers are expected to see Aurélie’s face during the busy summer travel season, while the magazine, known as Wings, is on board.

“In the fashion industry, a cover stands for recognition, visibility, and exceptional performance,” commented Max Kownatzki, the chief executive of Eurowings. “Dedicating the current WINGS cover to Aurélie is the most sincere way for us to say: We are proud of you,” Kownatzki added.

“I’m sure I’ll have to laugh. I’m on the plane on a normal working day – and suddenly a guest next to me holds a magazine on which I can be seen myself. This is surreal in the best way,” Aurélie told Germany’s best-selling tabloid newspaper Bild.

“You can be both – on the cover and in the service of others. That’s exactly what makes me!” Aurélie added when asked if she intended to leave her current job.

Eurowing’s decision to include Aurélie on the front cover of its in-flight magazine is a big break from tradition for Wings. Traditionally, the airline has reserved the front cover for ‘exceptional’ photos of nature.

But when Aurélie became the victor of Germany’s Next Top Model, the airline knew that a thank-you card wasn’t enough. Instead, Eurowings decided to make the recognition permanent, not only for Aurélie but for all of the airline’s other employees.

“She represents over 5,500 Eurowings employees who shape Eurowings,” Kownatzki said. “Aurélie’s story shows the diverse talents, passions and life paths that hide behind the people on board and on the ground.”
