When you as a teacher receive an email like what follows, it can be rather offsetting.

I can understand why it was sent, and I can understand that because of the timing and the need for investigation, but it is still unsettling to think that all of that vital info could have been compromised.

But that’s all I heard until this week:

“About 312,000 North Carolina teachers’ social security numbers were exposed in the PowerSchool breach, according to our news partner, WRAL.

The software provider has been used in all public schools in North Carolina. It manages information in and out of the classroom.”

That is the first time that social security numbers being leaked was ever mentioned in my recollection. And over 300,000 of them? From teachers? But less than 1000 students?

Why do I have to learn more from the local media about what happened with my information and the depth of the leaks concerning the hack?

Every teacher is entitled to more information about this breach in a timely manner with complete honesty.

Our profession as public school teachers as well as the schools in which we serve have already been under attack via legislative acts, culture wars, and extremism.
