Fans of Avatar Ang and Avatar Korra just got the best news they’ve had in over a decade. A brand new animated series set in the world that began with Avatar: The Last Airbender is coming to Nickelodeon. Here’s what we know so far.

The official announcement from Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios was made on February 21st, the 20th anniversary of the original series premiere. It included announcements for new books, live experiences, and YouTube content, but the real excitement is about the new Avatar show titled Avatar: Seven Havens. This new series by the original creators We’ll follow a brand new Avatar over two “books” and 26 episodes.
According to the official series description, Avatar: Seven Havens sounds like it will begin in a pretty dark place. Set after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: Legend of Korra, the world of the Avatar has been “shattered by a devastating cataclysm” The description continues,
“A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

The video announcement for the series, presented by Avatar actors Janet Varney (Avatar Korra) and Dante Basko (Prince Zuko), revealed that the role of The Avatar has also taken a dark turn. They explained, “In the era of Seven Havens, being the Avatar means your humanity’s destroyer, not its savior.”
DiMartino and Konietzko, who created the franchise (and who walked away from involvement with the Netflix live-action series), said in a joint statement. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”

There is no word of a release date for Seven Havens yet. Hopefully, with all this excitement surrounding this announcement, we won’t have to wait long for news. In the meantime, DiMartino and Konietzko are still working on the Avatar animated feature film set for release in January 2026.
Update Feb 23rd, 2025: A release date for Avatar: Seven Havens has been unofficially revealed. According to a Paramount release schedule in a recent issue of Toy World Magazine, fans will have to wait until 2027 to see the ppst apocalyptic adventures of a brand new Avatar.

Update Aug 3, 2025: A first look image of Avatar: Seven Havens was revealed at the 2025 San Diego Comic Con. Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Kora creators were there and explained the subtly different look of this new series. Co-creator Bryan Konietzko explained, “We like to change up the style. We like to make each project its own thing… [it’s a] More fantasy, otherworldly kind of scenario. We’re pulling in some influences from like Moebius and ’90s anime series”
