Amazon's new Lord of the Rings project has been officially cancelled, despite being in development for over three full years.
Lord of the Rings fans have had a lot to be excited about this year, especially with the confirmed release of The Hunt for Gollum in 2027. While the film won’t be hitting theaters this year, director Andy Serkis and producer Peter Jackson have not been shy about sharing the first details from The Hunt for Gollum, which is confirmed to take place between The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies. Fans were dealt a tragic blow a few weeks ago when it was revealed that Viggo Mortensen would not reprise his role as Aragorn in the film and had instead been recast by Jamie Dornan. This was, predictably, met with backlash by passionate Lord of the Rings fans, but the only appropriate thing to do is give Dornan a chance to take over the mantle.
