Sydney Sweeney Snubbed at the Emmys, but Her Star Power Could Revive ‘Euphoria’

The Emmys passed on Cassie Howard, but HBO reportedly isn't ready to close the door on Sydney Sweeney just yet.

Sydney Sweeney has never had trouble commanding attention. Between the tabloid buzz, the boundary-pushing scenes, and a face that launched a thousand magazine covers, the 28-year-old has spent years as one of the most talked-about stars on television. And yet, when the 2026 Emmy nominations landed, the one thing Sweeney couldn’t seem to command was a spot on the ballot.

The final, long-delayed third season of Euphoria barely registered with voters this year. HBO’s once-buzzy teen drama scored recognition for Zendaya and Colman Domingo, but many of its other big names, including the previously nominated Sweeney, were left out in the cold. Despite strong reviews for her racy turn as the perpetually spiraling Cassie Howard, Sweeney missed out on another Supporting Actress nod, a snub that had awards watchers buzzing all morning.

If it stings, there may be a silver lining. According to a report from In Touch Weekly, Sweeney’s sheer wattage could be the very thing that drags Euphoria back from the dead, even after its supposedly final season killed off several major characters (yes, including Rue). “They know how to squeeze every drop of value out of a show or a piece of source material, and there are clearly more stories to tell,” a source told the outlet.

Here’s where it gets interesting. While the finale wiped out a chunk of the cast, creator Sam Levinson reportedly left himself an escape hatch. Cassie survives, and she’s off to chase a “new adventure in Hollywood,” an ending open enough to build an entire season around. “If he gets ideas for more seasons, especially if he plans to focus on Sydney, he’s going to get a big fat yes from HBO,” the insider added.

Could Sydney Sweeney’s Star Power Single-Handedly Revive Euphoria?

Sweeney herself doesn’t sound ready to say goodbye. Speaking with Variety after the finale, she admitted she’ll never feel fully satisfied with where Cassie landed. “I know there is more to tell of Cassie’s story,” she said, adding that she’ll “always be wondering what Cassie is up to in the Euphoria-verse.”

So while the Emmy voters may have moved on, Cassie’s story might not be finished. And if there’s one thing Hollywood loves more than a comeback, it’s a bankable star willing to lead one. Snub or no snub, Sweeney remains exactly that.
