Make Your Own Lampshades

6 months ago 46

To make something by hand yourself for your home is a wonderful thing.  Taking the time to think about what you want and how you are going to achieve it.  Adding layers to your space with time worn or hand made things makes your home an ever changing one but subtly so, filling it with accessories that reflect you and where you are at that moment in time. My interiors are slowly evolving, adding more colour and texture as I go.  In my last post I talked about the colour change that will happen next year to my living room, I’ve already spent a happy half an hour looking at more fabric to reupholster the footstool which I love to pile books up on.  At the moment it is covered in a table cloth but I want to add a bold stripe in a deeper colour to compliment the green walls that I will be painting in the New Year. Anyway I digress, that’s another project for another day,  I made the lampshades that I have just replaced over 10 years ago so I thought it was time to do it again.  It’s a very easy thing to do and saves you quite a bit of money too.  Dannell’s is where I buy the kits for making drum lampshades, then just choose your fabric.  Merchant & Mills is one of the loveliest places to get good quality fabric that is rich and timeless. The whole process is so very easy, the only advice I have is take your time, read the instructions carefully and measure twice before cutting.  I’m so pleased with the outcome and I’m now very excited about the next stages.
