Let’s face it—healthcare technology is crowded with bold ideas and ‘game-changer’ solutions, but the real challenge is separating tomorrow’s buzz from today’s business value. One of these solutions is the new Epic Teamwork module, which is making waves in scheduling as part of Epic’s broader strategy of developing a natively-integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) suite.

Curious about Epic Teamwork and what it means for your long-term strategic roadmap? Here’s what you should know.

What is Epic Teamwork?

Teamwork is Epic’s new staff scheduling module designed to replace disconnected, manual processes with real-time, pattern-driven, and assignment-aware scheduling. It allows organizations to:

  • Build automated shift schedules based on staffing patterns and coverage needs
  • Manage on-call assignments with full integration to Secure Chat and Cadence
  • Visualize staffing gaps in real-time
  • Push schedule visibility across clinical workflows and operational dashboards

Teamwork also supports physicians and on-call scheduling, making it easier to align shift coverage with clinical availability and integrate on-call presence with Secure Chat and Cadence workflows. Note: Clinician/nurse schedules are slated to roll out in August.

For organizations already “all-in” on Epic, Teamwork enables smarter, more connected scheduling—which means fewer hand-offs and more real-time coordination. However, while timekeeping and payroll are on Epic's roadmap, it's important to note that they aren't available today, so organizations will need to focus on strong integrations while these capabilities are still being developed.

What’s Next with Epic ERP

As we look to the future, Teamwork is only the beginning of Epic’s entrance into the ERP and WFM space. It’s an ambitious (and evolving) move, which focuses on unifying HR, finance, and supply chain with clinical organizations.

So, what does this mean for hospitals and health systems? For many of our clients, the focus is on connecting—not just replacing. The big opportunity right now is integrating Epic's clinical tools with your established WFM and ERP systems, with the goal of cutting manual work, closing data gaps, and gaining a clearer picture across the enterprise.

From there? It's important to stay future-ready. We're helping our clients track Epic's roadmap, participate in pilots, and plan for innovation—while ensuring operational stability always comes first.

How We Can Help You Prepare for What’s Next

At Healthcare IT Leaders, our value comes from our specialized teams: one dedicated to Electronic Health Records (EHR) and the other to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). These two core branches of our company are purpose-built to support healthcare organizations across clinical and business transformation initiatives.

That dual perspective is critical for organizations evaluating solutions like Epic Teamwork, because the conversation isn’t just about Epic—it’s about how staffing aligns with broader operational, HR, and payroll strategies.

Our experts provide:

  • Current-state WFM assessments to identify system overlaps, inefficiencies, and quick wins
  • Strategic roadmap planning to align WFM tools with HR, payroll, and operational goals
  • Teamwork implementation support, from Staffing Board buildout to scheduling governance
  • Integration consulting to ensure Teamwork and legacy systems coexist effectively
  • Change management and training strategies tailored to your end users

Plus, our flexible staffing models and cross-functional expertise allow us to meet your needs at every stage, from planning and implementation to optimization and support.

Where other firms focus narrowly on one domain, we’re designed to bridge the gap between EHR and ERP—and between clinical workflows and workforce management—so we can help you unify your scheduling strategy across departments and systems.

The Bottom Line

Whether you’re deepening your existing WFM investments, exploring new Epic features, or looking to create a seamless handshake between systems, our message stays the same: success isn’t about choosing sides, it’s about building harmony across your operations.
