When it comes to luxury getaways, not all hotel spa experiences are created equal. As a travel editor who’s been lucky enough to soak, steam, and spa my way across some of the country’s most celebrated resorts, I’ve learned which wellness sanctuaries are truly worth the splurge.
Recently, spa-focused travel has surged, especially with more travelers booking getaways that offer not just pampering, but peace, purpose, and world-class service. And while Travel + Leisure readers recently weighed in on their favorite U.S. spa resorts, I’m sharing five personal favorites I’ve visited; each one delivering an unforgettable wellness experience wrapped in five-star luxury.
Here are five award-winning hotel spas in the U.S. that live up to the hype, and then some.
Acqualina Resort & Residences – Sunny Isles Beach, Florida
Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado – Santa Fe, New Mexico
Nestled in the Sangre de Cristo foothills, this resort blends high-desert mysticism with Four Seasons’ signature refinement. The spa treatments here draw on ancient Native American traditions and local botanicals. After the therapist smudged the room with palo santo (to purify my energy field), she proceeded to give me a truly relaxing massage treatment that released any muscle tension. Between the massage, a contemplative meditation in front of the roaring fireplace, and a peaceful soak in the heated outdoor whirlpool, I felt completely grounded, reconnected, and rejuvenated.
Mandarin Oriental Boston – Boston, Massachusetts
The Spa at Pebble Beach – Pebble Beach, California
Tucked behind the iconic Pebble Beach golf course lies Casa Palmero Inn, an exquisite 24-room Mediterranean-style inn with private courtyard vibes and exclusive access to the Spa at Pebble Beach: one of only a handful of spas in the U.S. to earn Forbes Five-Star status. I loved the sense of seclusion here: cozy fireplaces, eucalyptus steam, and ocean air combine to create pure coastal bliss. Given that this spa is essentially in my backyard (I live minutes away), it’s one of my favorite places to indulge my senses any given weekend.
Four Seasons Resort & Residences Napa Valley – Calistoga, California
This is wine country wellness at its finest. Set within a working vineyard, the Four Seasons Napa Valley offers curated spa experiences like grape seed-infused facials and outdoor mud rituals. After a signature body polish and vineyard soak, I lingered at the pool with views of the vineyards and realized this is what true luxury feels like.
From oceanfront opulence to mountain zen, these five luxury hotel spas aren’t just worth booking, they’re worth building your entire trip around. Each one blends world-class service, stunning surroundings, and soul-soothing rituals that stay with you long after checkout.
