And it is your money story that will determine your ability to attract, create, and increase your wealth more than the product or service you offer, more than how hard you work, and more than how smart you are.

Your money story will determine your wealth creation. And to help you understand that, I’ve created five money personalities that I’m going to share with you today. And as you learn about these money personalities, I’d like you to see if you can see a little bit of yourself in any one of them, or perhaps somebody you know. Maybe an intimate partner, maybe a business partner, maybe a client.

Just see if you can recognize any aspect from one or several of these money personalities. You game? Sure, let’s do it. Okay, so I thought I’d add a little bit of international flavor to the conversation since we had some international people over here.

So this was my second best-selling book, Money Can Buy You Happiness: Secrets Women Need to Know to Get Paid What They’re Worth. You wouldn’t believe the emails that I received that excoriated me, saying, “I have two master’s and a doctorate in clinical psychology. You call yourself a clinical psychologist. You don’t know anything about money if you think money can make you happy.” I’m like, the only people that say it can’t make you happy are the people that have it. And I also said that clearly you haven’t read the book, because the premise of the book is that money gives you the opportunity to make choices and to have experiences.

So I was in Dubai speaking to a group of entrepreneurial women, because women have—men do as well—but women are much more out there with it, saying that they have a difficult time in the corporate world, which is different than the entrepreneurial world. They have a very difficult time asking to get paid what they are worth. Because women are like, “I don’t know, they’ll think I’m greedy, they won’t like me.” I’m like, you are working for money. I don’t know a man on the planet that thinks he’s underpaid.

And I know plenty of them. I mean, thinks he’s overpaid. And I know plenty of them that are. So it’s a different mindset. And when you understand your relationship with money, you take control of your financial future. The way you feel about money is the way you make and keep your money, not the way you think about it, the way you feel. Your money story influences how much you believe you can make, your mindset, whether you see money as a place of scarcity or abundance, how comfortable you are charging your worth, and how you manage, save, or spend your income.
