WASHINGTON – In response to President Trump deploying the National Guard in Washington, DC, MoveOn Civic Action’s Chief Communication Officer Joel Payne released the following statement:
“Donald Trump can try to cosplay like a king all he wants, but it doesn’t change the fact that he is an unpopular president pushing a historically unpopular agenda with economic policies that are hurting all Americans. His dangerous authoritarian overreach of unleashing the military against the people and interfering with local governance of the District of Columbia is unacceptable and yet another breach of trust for what the American people expect from their president.
Instead of using his power to make our lives better, strengthen the economy and unite our country, he’s using it to give more power to the wealthy and well connected, seek revenge against those who disagree with him, and ultimately protect himself. MoveOn members will not be distracted or intimidated from holding Donald Trump and Republicans accountable.”
