October wasn’t a great month for me because there was a lot going on at work and that, rightly, took my attention. I read several books of my TBR but definitely far fewer spooky books than I planned, or even autumnal books. This is the first full month of the reading challenge I’m doing on Goodreads and so that directed my reading slightly.

Books I Read

  1. Heroine? Saint? No, I’m an All-Works Maid (And Proud of It)! (Light Novel) Vol. 2 (Heroine? Saint? No, I’m an All-Works Maid (And Proud of It)! (Light Novel) #2)
  2. How to Solve Your Own Murder (The Castle Knoll Files #1)
  3. Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Zu Shi (Novel) Vol. 2 (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Zu Shi (Novel) #2)
  4. Autumn Chills (The Agatha Christie Collection #4)
  5. The Kamogawa Food Detectives (The Kamogawa Food Detectives #1)
  6. Death Notice (Death Notice #1)
  7. Barracoon: The Story of the Last “Black Cargo”
  8. The Next Always (Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy #1)
  9. A Tangle of Spells (A Pinch of Magic #3)
  10. House of Hollow
  11. Lemon
  12. Heroine? Saint? No, I’m an All-Works Maid (And Proud of It)! (Light Novel) Vol. 3 (Heroine? Saint? No, I’m an All-Works Maid (And Proud of It)! (Light Novel) #3)
  13. By the Fire We Carry: The Generations-Long Fight for Justice on Native Land

Favourite Book of the Month

This was quite a hard choice this month! There were several books that I really enjoyed, from the surprise (Death Notice) to the one I expected to enjoy after enjoying the rest of the series (A Tangle of Spells), but the one book I’m sure I’ll reread it, partly because I enjoy the series but mostly because I just find the writing style, mystery and worldbuilding so fun, is the next book in the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation series.

Least Favourite Book of the Month

This was fairly easy to pick up as well. I had heard so much about this one book and then I found the main character more annoying than anything and I’ve already forgotten about the mystery in the present day. I was far more interested in the past timeline with the grandmother, at least she had a personality even if it was more sharp-tongued than her granddaughter’s. How To Solve Your Own Murder was just a disappointment to me.

Reading Updates

No ARCs read, no books from my 2025 reading list read and only three of the books I read this month were from my own TBR. I did manage to read one book from the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction Longlist (By the Fire We Carry) but that was about it for all the lists and challenges I’ve set myself! Hopefully November will be better.
