Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that Israel represents the biggest obstacle to the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between his country and the United States of America.

This came in a speech he delivered during his participation in the 39th meeting of the heads of education directorates across the country, which was published by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on its Telegram website on Tuesday.

He continued, saying: “Israel is the biggest opponent and obstacle to implementing this understanding.”

Araghchi stressed that the diplomatic success in reaching the memorandum of understanding is not due to him personally or to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He added: “This was a victory for the Iranian people. It was the result of the resistance shown during the war, which forced the enemy to accept Iran’s demands.”

Qalibaf listed among the demands the lifting of the blockade, the cancellation of oil sanctions, and the release of frozen Iranian assets abroad.

On June 18, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as a prelude to reaching a final agreement, but its implementation has stalled due to disagreements regarding the security of the strait.

On February 28, the United States and Israel began attacks on Iran, and Tehran responded by targeting Israel and what it said were American sites in the region, before a ceasefire agreement was reached last April.

Between July 8 and 24, the United States resumed its attacks on Iran, and Tehran responded by targeting what it said were American military facilities and equipment in Arab countries, before resuming talks on safe passages for ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
