Mercedes-Benz has recalled just 164 examples of its GLE SUV from model years 2021 and 2022 because of a wiring problem that could trigger a fire.
Mercedes tells federal safety officials, A 12-volt ground connection under the driver seat may not be secured properly, resulting in the ground connection overheating.
The recall affects such a small number of vehicles because it wasnt created on the assembly line. Mercedes pulls a small number of cars off the line for quality assurance inspection and reassembly. During this process, Mercedes has determined that one individual reworker incorrectly performed the rework task of reinstalling the connection in question.
Mercedes is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.
Dealers will check the bolt torque for the ground connection on the affected vehicles and rework it, if necessary, Mercedes says.
