Jon Hamm once had a blunt answer when asked about fatherhood: “I’d be a terrible father!”

His concern seemed to be more about exhaustion than anything else at the time. “I see my friends who have children and I’m like, ‘Dude, how are you even upright, much less here at work at 6 a.m.?'” he told US Weekly in March 2012.

At 41, Hamm had no plans to become a parent, but since then, much has changed for the Mad Men star.

Jon Hamm is now more than ready to become a father

Hamm is preparing to welcome his first child with Anna Osceola, which is a striking turn from his past views.

Jon Hamm’s relationship with Anna Osceola changed his views

Hamm’s relationship with Osceola appears to have played a major role in changing his mindset.

“Anna has always known that she wanted to have a family, but she was incredibly understanding of where Jon was when they first started dating,” the source revealed.

According to the insider, Osceola never pressured Hamm for parenthood and the two remained open about what they wanted.

Eventually, they reached the same page and now “they’re both so excited.” Per the source, “it feels like the right time for them.”

They added that Hamm “is in a place in his life where he’s ready and genuinely excited to become a dad.”

Hamm and Osceola met on the set of Mad Men and the duo eventually started dating. They married in June 2023 and according to US Weekly’s report from the same year, they were already thinking of “having kids soon.”

The outlet’s source at the time said, “Jon feels like this is the beginning.” Now, that possibility has become reality.

Before Osceola, Hamm spent 18 years with Jennifer Westfeldt. They began dating in 1997 and announced their separation in September 2015.

In an interview with The New York Times, she spoke about why she and Hamm never had children.

“I kept feeling like I’d wake up with absolute clarity, and I haven’t,” she said. “And we have a pretty great life together. The chance that we’ll regret it doesn’t seem like a compelling enough reason to do it.”
