SPRINGFIELD — Cancer Connection announced the grand opening of its Springfield location, at 1510 and 1502 Allen St. in Bicentennial Plaza, on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The site will serve the Greater Springfield community with bilingual services and programming, as well as a branch of the nonprofit’s Thrift Shop, which, like the flagship Thrift Shop in Northampton, is a curated shop featuring a variety of high quality goods at low prices, with all proceeds funding Cancer Connection’s services for cancer patients and their caregivers.

Cancer Connection launched its Springfield Thrift Shop at 1510 Allen St. under the direction of Manager Wanda Vega and Assistant Manager Willian Henrique, who bring extensive retail experience and a commitment to the organization’s mission. The store is now open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and donation days are on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the back of Bicentennial Plaza, 1498 Allen St. For more information and a list of accepted items, visit www.cancer-connection.org.

Cancer Connection’s new location allows convenient access to its free services for more people in the Springfield community. Beginning in mid-September, a new befriender, Ashley Colon, will offer bilingual (Spanish and English), in-person befriending by appointment or walk-in, as well as by phone (check the website for specific days and hours). Support groups, including bilingual groups, also begin this month, with additional programming coming soon. This fall, the Springfield center, part of the Integrative Health Group at 1502 Allen St., will also launch integrative therapy appointments, all free of charge.

Cancer Connection will continue to offer its full range of free services and programs at 41 Locust St. in Northampton and at its original Thrift Shop in Northampton. It also offers many programs in hybrid format, so they may be accessed from anywhere.
