Mergers and Acquisitions: An Overview of Notable Healthcare M&A Activity in 2026

Mergers and acquisitions are off to a strong start in 2026. According to Kaufman Hall, there were more transactions in Q1 2026 than in any of the previous five Q1 results. That pace continued into Q2 2026, when the industry saw the highest Q2 M&A levels since 2019. Healthcare organizations are continuing to engage in M&As as a strategy to expand care access and bolster stability amid increasing economic pressures.
