I remember talking with academics in the Soviet Union, abut how they did their research, and how they got funding and they would tell me you have to be careful. The government is for sale, and you don't want to offend anyone because even if they are not in the government, they can buy someone to come after you. The Trump MAGAT Republican fascist coup that we are living through is doing exactly the same thing, and what really stands out for me about what is happening is how closely it parallels not the Soviet Union, but Hitler's Germany.
