The Boston Celtics appear to be positioning themselves for a potential superstar addition that could reshape their championship aspirations.

With both Jayson Tatum and Damian Lillard recovering from Achilles injuries, their shared rehabilitation journey may be creating an unexpected opportunity for Boston’s front office.

The connection between the two stars has reportedly evolved beyond their Team USA partnership, with Tatum actively pursuing his fellow All-Star.

“Jayson Tatum has been recruiting Damian Lillard to join the Celtics, per Gary Washburn,” NBA Central shared.

Lillard’s availability stems from a surprising move by the Milwaukee Bucks, who waived the nine-time All-Star and stretched his massive contract over five years.

The decision cleared financial space for Milwaukee to pursue other targets, including their recent signing of Myles Turner to a four-year deal worth $107 million.

Despite tearing his Achilles during the 2025 playoffs, Lillard remains an attractive option for contending teams.

His production last season speaks for itself, averaging 24.9 points and 7.1 assists across 58 games while cementing his place as the fourth-leading three-point shooter in NBA history.

The financial structure makes this partnership particularly appealing for Boston.

With Milwaukee still responsible for a portion of Lillard’s salary through the stretch provision, the Celtics could acquire a future Hall of Famer using either the veteran minimum or their $5.7 million mid-level exception.

For Lillard, joining forces with Tatum offers the chance to contribute to a championship-caliber organization while recovering from his injury.

Moreover, the timing aligns perfectly with both players’ rehabilitation schedules, potentially creating a synchronized return that could elevate Boston’s title hopes significantly.
