The Pakistan Cricket Board and Cricket West Indies are at loggerheads over the schedule for the three-match T20I and ODI series scheduled to be held in August. Pakistan wll tour the US and the Caribbean islands from August 1-12, with the T20Is scheduled to be held in the former and the ODIs in the latter. Reports have claimed that Pakistan wants the ODIs to be replaced by T20Is and have reportedly communicated their opinion to the CWI.
Pakistan doesn’t want to play ODIs
As per Cricbuzz, Pakistan has reportedly threatened West indies to consider their options if the tour schedule isn’t revised. The report states that Pakistan is insisting on playing only the shortest format and wants the second leg of the tour to be converted to T20Is. However, CWI has maintained that discussions are ongoing and that the schedule remains as is for now.
“The schedule remains as it is, and we continue to engage with the PCB on the matter,” CWI CEO Chris Dehring said.
West Indies are keen on playing ODIs as they haven’t had a lot of 50-over games in the recent past. Besides, they failed to make it to the ODI World Cup in 2023 as well.
Pakistan, on the other hand, want to play more T20Is, keeping in mind the T20 World Cup 2026. The marquee event will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka somewhere in February 2026, with Pakistan set to play all their matches at a neutral venue in Sri Lanka.
