The international governing body of basketball, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has announced a new four-year partnership extension with a multi-platform media company, Cignal.

The arrangement, which was first started in 2017, is expected to contribute to the game’s continued growth, consolidating an already productive alliance that will now stretch into a second decade. An intriguing multi-platform strategy for the next broadcast period is planned to maximise the sport’s visibility by displaying FIBA competitions to both traditional television audiences and those who prefer to watch basketball digitally. Cignal has routinely generated high ratings for FIBA tournaments, notably games involving Gilas Pilipinas, the Philippines’ men’s national basketball team, which are among the most viewed broadcasts in the country.

Most notably, they previously offered comprehensive and excellent coverage of the very successful and momentous FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, which was co-hosted by the Philippines and included the competition’s Final Phase in the nation.

The new four-year arrangement covers free-to-air, pay-TV, and over-the-top (OTT) rights, guaranteeing that FIBA events are available to viewers across Cignal’s key platforms and channels.

FIBA Basketball will be aired on free-to-air channels One Sports and RPTV, pay-TV channels One Sports+ and PBA Rush, and OTT platforms Pilipinas Live, Cignal Play, and Cignal Super. The Pilipinas Live app will also provide video on demand for all FIBA games, as well as special selected material such as game and player highlights.

Cignal will carry the games from all of FIBA’s main tournaments and qualifiers. This will feature both the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 and the 32nd edition of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup, which will be held in the Philippines in 2027.

Frank Leenders, Director General of FIBA Media and Marketing Services, said, “As we saw at the last FIBA Basketball World Cup, the passion for basketball in the Philippines is incredible, and Cignal has already proven how important it is to have a respected and valued broadcast partner who can meet that voracious appetite for the sport. We are delighted to have been able to extend our relationship for another four-year period, and it’s tremendous news for the fans. They will be able to consume basketball content in more ways than ever before. Growing the FIBA game globally is something we always have in our minds and the acceleration in popularity shows no signs of slowing down – thanks to the work of our broadcast partners such as Cignal.”

Jane Jimenez-Basas, President and CEO of Cignal, said, “There is nothing like the passion of our Filipino basketball fans. Our renewed partnership with FIBA is a testament to our commitment to them. We will continue to make sure that everyone can get the basketball content that they need, no matter what device they’re using.”
